Black Privilege

I was doing some research, looking for topics to write this blog on when I stumbled across a CNN article that caught my attention. It was titled "It's time to talk about 'black privilege'" written by John Blake. I didn't hesitate to click the link. The more I read the article, the more furious I became. I honestly couldn't believe what I was reading. There are white people who don't believe there's such thing as white privilege but believe there's black privilege. I'm not surprised that there are white people who don't believe in their privilege, which is also a part of the problem. However, lets move on. The reasoning behind these delusional statements were things such as "Black people have Black History month" and "Black people have organizations that cater solely to their race". First of all, there's such thing as a racially oppressed majority? There's "black privilege" because there's a Black History month, but you have every other month in the year to celebrate your white history. Let us have our 28 (29 during a leap year) days. Organizations like the NAACP (National Association for Colored People) are seen as racist to white people because if they had the equivalent, they'd be viewed as racist. On the contrary, there are political organizations in this country that are for the benefit of whites. Reading and analyzing this article made me realize that some white people want to be victims so bad. In 2011, there was a survey that concluded that white Americans say they suffer from racial discrimination more than blacks. Oh really? Where are the facts that back up the claim? Because I have the facts to argue against it. The numbers simply don't support it. Black people make up about 13.3% of the population, where white people make up 77.1%. The wealth of white households is 13 times the median wealth of black households. Black children represent 18% of the nations preschool enrollment but make up half of suspensions. Job applicants with white sounding names are 50% more likely to get called back for an interview. Prison sentences for black men are 20% longer than those of white men with similar crimes. Who's more susceptible to racial discrimination again? There are perks to being white that white people are unaware of because they're used it. A white person doesn't think twice about being pulled over or buying Skittles and an Arizona. That's the privilege we as black people are talking about. We're not talking about the "I was born into a poor family and had to work my way up, so how am I privileged?" narrative. Also, saying you grew up poor as a means to relate yourself to the struggles of black people, is silly. It doesn't matter if you grew up on welfare, in the slums of whatever neighborhood you come from, your white skin tone will still get your further. Privilege has everything to do with the fact that my skin tone has a little too much melanin in it. It has everything to do with the fact that your skin tone saves you where it doesn't save us. Don't try to sell the notion of "white is becoming the new black" because it isn't. Just because white privilege is becoming more mainstream doesn't mean you come up with counterarguments that make no sense simply to justify your theory of "white privilege being nonexistent". We all know there is no such thing as black privilege, white people just don't like to be challenged about their white privilege. Let me remind you what privilege means. Privilege is when you don't believe something is a problem because it isn't a problem to you specifically. You are privileged, no matter how much you don't want to believe it.

The fact of the matter remains, you don't run the same race as me. The obstacles that are in my path aren't in yours. Do not even attempt to compare your white to my black.
