Uneducated Sistas

I was surfing the web about the portrayal of black women in our society and I stumbled upon an article in Essence Magazine. I read that negative imagery of African American women is seen more often than positive. Oddly, I wasn't surprised or shocked, however it prompted me to write my many frustrations. In the media, I've seen a lot of black women taking roles that portray them as uneducated or ignorant. For those who base their facts on what they see on their television screens, these portrayals validate their very feelings for black women. These negative images fuel the misrepresentation and further deters the black woman for wanting to strive and end up falling victim to the stereotypes. However, my black sistas aren't as uneducated as our white counterparts may think. Black women are now the most educated group in America. According to the National Center for Education, a higher percentage of black women are enrolled in college than any other racial AND gender group. How about that?
