1990s television versus now. Isn't there a huge difference? The gap that we were working on bridging together has been steadily falling apart. Even though we're making repairs, slowly but surely, this still should be addressed. We had television shows like The Cosby Show to look up to. Remember Claire Huxtable? Of course you do. She was the epitome of black woman excellence. A successful career woman all the while raising a family and being a wife. NOW? We're back to the stereotypical characters. That's right, our jezebels and sapphires. In more modern words, our gold diggers, our promiscuous women, etc. Consumers demand these portrayals, obviously because of the high ratings. Our reality television shows are entertaining however what is it really doing to our black women? We don't want our progression to collide with media stereotypes. Lets not move backwards. Lets keep bridging the gap.
