I have a question, let's see if you all can answer it. Why are black women criticized when we are in our natural state? In the media, there have been many instances where black women are looked down upon because of the texture of our hair. However, there are other races that take what we are naturally born with and use it as their own. That's not the worst part. They get POSITIVE recognition from it. Meanwhile, we miss out on job opportunities or get sent home from our schools because our hair is a distraction. Is there a logical explanation? Because I haven't come up with one either. Hair is an expression of individuality and it shows our culture. There's also a complex that only girls who are or look "mixed" can achieve naturally curly hair. Which goes back to relating beauty to women who look more European. I've also seen on Twitter, women telling other women that the "natural" look isn't for them. Since when does the hair that grows out of our own heads aren't for "us"? Let African-American women be natural in peace. The hair textures of African-American women are all beautiful, no matter the skin tone.
